Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul stated on Monday (2) that Thailand has formally conveyed its concerns to Myanmar regarding the clashes near the border and has ordered an increase in patrols, warning that the conflict must not affect Thai territory, civilians, homes, or properties.
Speaking at Nong Khai Hospital at 1 PM, Anutin responded to opposition calls for an official stance following clashes between Myanmar troops and Karen armed groups along the border. According to him, the government has already acted through military and diplomatic channels.
The Prime Minister mentioned that the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Armed Forces and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sihasak Phuangketkeow, expressed concerns to Myanmar on Saturday, urging caution to ensure that civilians and properties unrelated to the conflict are not harmed on either side of the border. Anutin added that Thai authorities would summon officials from the Myanmar embassy to reinforce this message.

Thailand has increased its patrol strength and military readiness, but troops have been instructed to avoid confrontation and prevent the situation from escalating into a broader conflict. "The fighting has nothing to do with Thailand or the Thai people," Anutin emphasized, noting that the Armed Forces must still protect the territory as much as possible. He acknowledged that the country has already suffered damage due to the clashes, making the warning necessary.
Regarding Myanmar nationals crossing the border, Anutin stated that humanitarian assistance continues and that their return will be facilitated once the situation stabilizes, with no forced repatriation while fighting persists. Those remaining without legal authorization will be subject to immigration laws. When asked about reports of threats from Myanmar soldiers to Thai warehouses linked to supplies for the KNU, the Prime Minister said he had no confirmed information.
This statement comes on the same day that a local leader in Mae Hong Son condemned Myanmar airstrikes near the border and called for a security zone — a topic that adds to the tension already recorded in Mae Sot and Mae Sam Laep in recent weeks.
