Saenpon Sor. Sommai: From 700 Baht Fights to Thai Muay Thai Champion
Saenpon made his professional Muay Thai debut at 19, rising from 700 baht purses to claim the Thai title at 147 pounds.

Starting late does not mean falling behind. Saenpon Sor. Sommai is proof of this. The Thai fighter made his professional debut at 19, an age when many consider it too late to build a career in sports. His journey began far from the major stadiums, earning only 700 baht per fight in rural matches. Over time, he ascended to become the champion of Thailand in the 147-pound category, earning purses in the hundreds of thousands of baht.
Hailing from Ubon Ratchathani and representing the Sor. Sommai gym, Saenpon's journey was highlighted by the Office of the Boxing Commission of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) in a publication about the Luk Mai Muay Thai – The Next Gen Fighter program.
His story stands out precisely because it deviates from the more common narrative in Thai Muay Thai, where many athletes start fighting as children. Saenpon only debuted professionally at 19, but he made discipline in training and an indomitable spirit his main weapons.
From 700 Baht Fights to National Title
His beginnings were in regional fights, earning 700 baht per appearance. This was a far cry from the belts, large prizes, and the spotlight of the country's top events.
Step by step, Saenpon carved out his place until he became the champion of Thailand in the welterweight division at 147 pounds. His evolution was also reflected in his earnings, which grew from modest sums to hundreds of thousands of baht.
Along the way, he began facing foreign fighters on international stages, gaining experience against styles quite different from traditional Thai Muay Thai.

Stint in ONE and Title Shot at Rajadamnern
Saenpon also achieved notable results in prominent showcases of the current scene. In 2023, he secured two victories at ONE Friday Fights.
A member of the Rajadamnern World Series (RWS) roster, he had his big chance on March 7, 2026, when he contested the welterweight title at Rajadamnern Stadium during RWS 184. Opposing him was Tapaokaew Singha Mawynn, who emerged victorious by unanimous decision.
This result does not overshadow the significance of his journey: from debuting at 19 to challenging for a title at one of the most traditional Muay Thai stadiums.
A Story Beyond the Ring
In introducing Saenpon in the Luk Mai Muay Thai – The Next Gen Fighter program, the Thai Boxing Commission reinforces the message of the initiative: Muay Thai is an opportunity for all who are ready to roll up their sleeves.
His journey shows that the sport is not only for those who donned gloves in childhood. There is room for those willing to train hard, evolve, and seize opportunities.
