Muay Thai Xtreme Shines at Gamescom Asia, Bringing Thai Tradition to the Gaming World

Muay Thai is set to carve out a new space in the world of video games. Developed by Thai creators and inspired by one of the country's greatest cultural and sporting expressions, Muay Thai Xtreme (MTX) is expanding its international presence and capturing the attention of combat sports and gaming fans.

On Friday, October 30, the project reached another significant milestone by participating in the gamescom asia x Thailand Game Show 2026, held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok. The event, which brings together developers, producers, and enthusiasts from the gaming industry, provided an opportunity for the public to experience the title ahead of its official launch.

The participation goes far beyond a simple gameplay presentation. From October 30 to November 1, booth L2 features playable demos, live Muay Thai demonstrations with real fighters, and competitive activities that bridge the gap between traditional sport and its digital version.

A Game Created in the Land of Muay Thai

Unlike combat titles that mix various styles, Muay Thai Xtreme aims to place the art of the eight weapons at the center of the entire experience.

The project is developed by SQUADX, an independent studio based in Bangkok, with distribution by Rising Tide Publishing. The goal is to bring not only the characteristic strikes of the sport to the video game but also its dynamics, strategies, and cultural identity.

Developed using Unreal Engine 5, the game seeks to replicate fundamental elements of the fight, including punches, kicks, knee strikes, elbow strikes, clinches, movement, and pressure within the ring.

The control of movements and the reading of the opponent's actions are part of the proposal to offer a competitive experience that values technique, precision, and decision-making, rather than relying solely on quick command sequences.

The official Steam page already features functionalities such as ranked online matches, casual games, private rooms, fighter customization, and different tactical styles. The game also supports controllers, as recommended by the developers.

From Initial Demos to International Championships

One of the most significant signs of Muay Thai Xtreme's evolution is the hosting of competitions even before its commercial release.

Named MTX STRYK, the tournament brings together content creators and invited players from different regions, including Thailand, the United States, and Canada, in competitive matches within the digital environment.

The qualifiers held in October paved the way for the decisive phase, scheduled for Saturday, October 31, during the gamescom asia x Thailand Game Show.

The competition will feature a total prize pool of $5,000, with $2,500 reserved for the champion. More than just a contest for results, the championship serves as an opportunity to showcase gameplay, test the competitive experience, and present the project to an international audience.

For a game still in development, the combination of tournaments, streamed matches, and live demonstrations represents a significant advancement in its promotional strategy.

A Real Ring Alongside the Virtual

Another highlight of MTX's participation in Bangkok is the connection between the video game and the Muay Thai practiced in the rings.

The organization announced seven live Muay Thai fights, along with eight stations for visitors to experience the game during the three-day event.

The event is also set to feature legendary figures from the sport, such as Dieselnoi Chor Thanasukarn and Pudpadnoi Worawut, as well as Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong, a former GLORY world champion.

The aim is to allow the audience to witness the martial art in its traditional form and, just a few meters away, experience its interpretation in video games.

This approach reinforces an aspect that differentiates the project: the goal is not just to create another fighting game, but to transform Muay Thai into an interactive experience capable of reaching new audiences, especially among generations connected to gaming and esports.

Partnership with TWINS Special Strengthens Game Identity

The construction of this virtual universe is also beginning to receive support from traditional Muay Thai brands.

In an official post shared on social media, Muay Thai Xtreme announced a partnership with TWINS Special, a Thai manufacturer of equipment used in Muay Thai, boxing, and MMA training and competitions.

According to the announcement, the collaboration will allow players to find items inspired by the brand in the virtual environment, including clothing and combat accessories.

Founded in 1992, TWINS Special has a history linked to equipment production in Thailand, and its involvement in the project represents another connection between the gaming industry and the real-world universe of the sport.

The partnership also emphasizes the commitment to building an experience that resonates with practitioners and fans of the sport, incorporating internationally recognized elements within the culture of Muay Thai.

The Next Step is Steam

Despite the growing promotion, Muay Thai Xtreme is still not available for public purchase or download on Steam.

The official page remains marked as “Coming Soon.” However, materials released by Rising Tide Publishing indicate a forecast for the second quarter of 2027, with no specific date confirmed on the platform.

In the meantime, the studio continues to work on presentations, testing, and competitive activities. A new phase of alpha testing, initially aimed at the press and content creators, is scheduled to begin on November 6, with a limited number of participants.

Interested individuals can already access the official page and add Muay Thai Xtreme to their Steam wishlist to receive notifications when the game becomes available.

Thai Tradition Conquers New Spaces

The growth of Muay Thai Xtreme demonstrates how Thailand's sporting tradition can find new pathways through technology.

By betting on a discipline deeply connected to history and national identity, its developers aim to offer an experience different from conventional fighting games, bringing video game fans closer to a sport practiced and admired worldwide.

Its presence at an international event, the hosting of championships, the involvement of prominent figures in Muay Thai, and partnerships with specialized companies indicate that the project is entering an important phase of maturation.

It will still be necessary to monitor the technical evolution and player reception until the final launch. But for those following the growth of Muay Thai beyond the rings, MTX already represents a significant initiative: a game created in Thailand, by a Thai team, with the ambition of introducing the art of the eight weapons to the world on a new platform.
